Extracting DNA from a Strawberry
At this workshop, we will be going over the basics of what DNA is and how we can observe it using a strawberry and an extraction liquid made from a few household materials. We’ll go through each step of the experiment together step-by-step, not just adding each ingredient, but also going over why exactly that ingredient works and ensures we get a good final result.
Clouds in a Jar
At this workshop, we will be going over the basics of the water cycle and understanding what exactly those white puffy clouds in the sky are made of and how it rains using cotton balls. We’ll then make a small model of the water cycle, replicating the sun, water, and atmosphere in a jar with some cool household materials and release a real cloud!
Magic with Chemistry
At this workshop, we’ll be going over a magic experiment with color changing liquid and learning how chemistry explains it all, using acids and bases! We will all work together to do this experiment again and then we'll use this magical concept of pH to color a piece of paper with things like lemon juice and sprite that you can take home.
